The WIPing Sessions -Vol.1

Part 1.

Hello! Welcome to the first instalment of an occasional series in which I delve into one of the many bags of LFWIPs (Long Forgotten Works In Progress), and bring one out into the light of day, to see if I can finish the ruddy thing item quickly, once and for all!

First up, my oldest (as far as I can tell) WIP in the bag.

This dates from my knitting days, and as I can't exactly remember when I stopped and began crocheting, I cannot tell you how long it's been in there waiting.

It should have been a good pattern to follow considering where it came from, but there were problems along the way that needed sorting well before I got to the "stop" moment.

Of course, it's a Snowman, and if you hadn't already worked that out then I'm sorry, you're a numpty. It wasn't exactly hidden from view!

The pattern was a free one from the Jean Greenhowe website and I thought it looked rather cute and got to work on it. Everything was going well until I made the hat. The body had been stuffed and although I thought the head looked a little large, it looked OK so followed the hat pattern. It was quite simple really and I was pleased with how it looked so I put it on the Snowman's head... and it was way too big! Honestly, it was so oversized I would have needed to make the head really big just to accommodate it.

Somewhat frustrated I decided to put that to one side and make the scarf. I followed the pattern. It was too small! No way was it going to do what the one in the picture was doing, it was just too short. You can imagine what I was feeling at this point. No, don't worry, I won't use that sort of language here but, I know you know!

But that wasn't the big "stop" moment. That was pretty much the next bit - the face. Imagine my horror when I read the instruction that essentially told me to stab the Snowman I had lovingly knitted and stuffed, through the head with a long darning needle!! I was not a happy bunny.

I probably sulked for a while before re-attempting the hat, in multi-coloured yarn, and I managed to make it fit by missing out some rows of the given pattern. Pleased, I made a longer scarf to match, but didn't like the combination of that and the red boots, so I re-made the blue and red hat, and pondered. For a long time.

And now is the time to finish it! Will crochet save the day? Will he ever have a face to look into the world with? Find out in Part 2 of, The WIPing Sessions! coming soon.πŸ‘‹πŸ˜€

    1. Oh I intend too! It's just not going quite as smoothly as I'd hoped!

  2. I think some felt shapes and a tube of glue can come in handy with some projects that won't behave ... :) xx
