About Me

    There’s not really a lot to say about me, that anyone would find interesting, so I will tell you that I have always enjoyed working with yarn and threads, even making my own tapestry/long-stitch pictures when I was a child, and I have an “A” in GCSE Textiles and an Advanced GNVQ in Art and Design. The idea was to go into fashion design but… well, that didn’t happen. Which is probably just as well as I have no fashion sense anyway!

I have always enjoyed drawing too and although that has fallen by the wayside recently I still enjoy art and am often inspired to think in terms of picture making, even with crochet and certainly with tapestry.

I also have an interest in nature and wildlife - I've loved birds for as long as I can remember. But not spiders, ants or wasps. Definitely not wasps!😰

Hopefully, A Mug For Hooks will not only be an enjoyable place for me to write about my various adventures in Crochet and other yarn based crafts, but also for you, the reader, to visit and marvel at the ramblings of someone who is quite probably a little gone-in-the-noggin!

I should probably warn you too that I was raised watching Carry-On films and Australian soap operas, and when jokes and comedians were actually funny so, expect a bit of innuendo and the odd pun here and there. And just to keep you on your toes the occasional quote from TV or a film, or a song lyric might slip in for you to identify. Expect no prizes, I’m tight as chips!

And don't be surprised if the blog goes quiet during the hotter months of the year because my hands sweat something chronic, which makes working with yarn, paper and any drawing media almost impossible!

Blogtober - Post 19! ❓ 🪝 📖 🌵

     Hello! I'd like to start by asking a few questions to those of you who have been using silicon-handled hooks longer than I have.     In the last few days I have notice that the hook I'm using most has developed a weird ickieness to the handle. It's not sticky or rough, just not right. My others don't feel like this. I even washed it the other day and if anything it made it slightly worse.      Could this be a reaction to the hand-cream I use in the evening to lessen the roughness of my fingers? Is there a way of fixing the issue, and is there a best way of storing and caring for this style of hook? Comments and solutions would be most appreciated.😀     I finished reading "The Tears Of The Salamander" Monday night, and tonight I will start reading something else. Blotober - Post 2!

    You would think that with it being a Sunday, I would have had plenty of opportunities to post my intended Blogtober post. But no. I haven't even touched a computer today until now because there always seemed to be something else to do! And I don't suppose any of it was particularly important. Ever have days like that?     So instead of that post I'm going to do a Sunday Waffle. A quick ramble about the day and anything else that pops into the noggin as I type. Minus the swear words. Probably.       It was pretty grim when I got up, it looked like it had rained🌧️ all night, but the sun soon came out☀️ and it was bright till about early afternoon when the clouds started gathering. Somewhere across the road someone had lit a garden fire, smoke blowing up the road so at least this time we didn't get the stink of it.🔥     We did have a fab dinner at lunch time! Interlude -Summer.

     I'll be honest, things are not great here at the mo'.       Quite apart from the fact that these last few hot weeks have turned my hands and fingers into wet and clammy nightmares, we've all had Covid. Yeah, after all this time, we finally get the bloody thing. The daft thing is my parents have been getting their boosters - the last one not long ago - whereas I haven't had one since the end of... 2021?, and if anything I fared better and have gotten over it quicker than they have! That's not to say any of us are exactly "right" at all: Mother still sounds like she has a cold, but doesn't, Father still has an awful bloody cough which is driving us all mad, and we're all still quite tired and head-achey.      And then there's the "other stuff" which I'm loath to go into because there really isn't much chance of any of that changing any time soon, if ever, and you never know who might end up reading all this.
